Say hello to the people who get to work with your wonderful child!
Ms. Sandi — Sandi Matley
I started my professional preparation in the child development field in 1969. I was very fortunate to have an inspirational college instructor named Nebba Kirk, who wrote for Sesame Street. She introduced me to the world of early childhood. I immediately enjoyed all that children had to teach me. Children's natural enthusiasm for life, the true love of learning, the sense of awe, and their genuine laughter grabbed me for life! Over the next 20 years I earned several degrees: Associates, Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education, ZA Endorsement, Vocational Child Care Certification, Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership, and numerous post graduate hours.
I have been a classroom teacher and/or administrator in a variety of different types of early childhood settings: College lab schools, cooperative child cares, vocational child care centers, public school classrooms, and privately owned facilities. I have taught children ages 6 weeks to 19 years of age. The one thing I have found in common is that all children need to be heard, given guidance, and loved for life.
In my personal life I've been blessed with a wonderful husband of forty plus years, a son and his wife, a daughter, and four grandchildren who continue to teach me!
Ms. Megan — Megan Costigan
Hi! My name is Megan Costigan. I received my bachelor of science in Education with a ZA endorsement in early childhood education from Western Michigan University. I went on to teach first grade for a number of years in Tampa FL before moving back to Michigan. Currently I live in Saline with my husband and three children. All three of them were lucky to attend Gingerbread House for preschool. When I'm not teaching or moonlighting as a taxi driver to my kids, I also enjoy being a dance instructor at a studio in Milan.
Ms. Heidi — Heidi Blankenbaker
Hi! My name is Heidi Blankenbaker, better known as Ms. Heidi. I live in Saline with my son Christian and our cat Jubilee. Christian is a student in Saline Area Schools and is great at keeping me on my toes with constant questions about the way things work. Thank goodness for Google! Even as a child myself I loved working with children. I was the kid at family reunions gathering up the cousins and organizing things for us to do! In high school I enrolled in vocational child care classes, and began working here at the Gingerbread House my senior year. I later went on to get my Child Development Accreditation (CDA) at Washtenaw Community College. I have loved being part of the Gingerbread House family since 1995. I look forward to many more years here, working with the children and families of our community.
